The Social Policy and Public Service Advocates is an organization provided for all SPPS majors and anyone invested in addressing public policy, educational reform, and health concerns. A group interested in current social issues, social change, and the power of the non-profit organizations to influence community. Students gather to create leadership and learning opportunities to address critical issues in current times. With an interest in policy, methodological skills, and community leadership, the group works with non-profits to establish educational partnership for students to engage in civic learning and community internships.
The mission and goals of Social Policy and Public Service Advocates was founded on the values of service, leadership, advocacy, justice, and equal representation. Specifically, the student scholars gather as social scientist and community leaders to address common community issues around the topics of health, education, and governance. Through programming, dialogues, workshops and other educational activities, the organization aspires to assist students with acquiring a comprehensive education while attending to societal issues that will be central to future practitioners in their respective fields.
